How are citation networks used to uncover disinformation?

Citation networks can be used to uncover disinformation by revealing patterns of information flow within a particular domain or community.

By analyzing the connections between different sources and the way that they reference and cite each other, it is possible to identify clusters of closely related information and to trace the origins and evolution of particular ideas or narratives

This can be helpful in detecting and debunking disinformation, as it can reveal the sources of false or misleading information and help to identify the ways in which it is being disseminated and propagated

Additionally, by analyzing the overall structure and dynamics of a citation network, it is possible to identify key influencers and gatekeepers who may be playing a role in the spread of disinformation.

UK Spoliation Reports: The Princes Gate Collection and the Courtauld

In 1978 the Courtauld Institute received an important bequest from Count Antoine Seilern. Officially anonymous, it was to be presented as  "Bequeathed as part of the Princes Gate Collection".

At present, 277 of the artworks donated by Antoine Seilern (17 September 1901 – 6 July 1978) to the Courtauld have been found to have gaps in their 1933-1945 provenance. The artworks with provenance gaps are listed on the Collections Trust "Spoliation Reports for UK Museums" website for the Courtauld Gallery.
(above photo: cover of book The Princes Gate Collection)

Several of the artworks in the Spoliation Report for the Courtauld display a question concerning the Glaser collection.

"Under what circumstances was the Glaser collection sold?"

Curt Glaser was a "physician and prominent art historian, an art critic, author of important art historical works and a well-known art collector" in addition to being the Director of the National Art Library in Berlin. A Jew, he fled into exile in 1933. (see: lootedart.com for the November 2012 SPK press release announcing the restitution of four artworks).

Below are the artworks listed by the Courtauld with the UK Spoliation Report provenance commentary.
