OpenArtData is an independent research publication focused on provenance, restitution, and the documentation of artworks and cultural objects.
The project brings together:
- archival sources
- museum and institutional publications
- court filings and legal documents
- structured datasets
to enable transparent, source-based analysis of ownership histories and restitution claims.
A particular focus is placed on:
- Holocaust-era provenance
- patterns in expert reports and institutional narratives
- the relationship between documentation, interpretation, and legal outcomes
OpenArtData combines traditional research methods with computational tools, including document analysis platforms and structured data techniques, to make complex provenance records more accessible and comparable.
All document collections reproduced on this site or linked through associated tools are provided in accordance with their original licenses. Analytical notes, datasets, and interpretations are presented separately and do not modify the original source materials.
